I've charted it: my nine-year-old tabby, otherwise healthy, coughs up a hairball, all grossy and slimy, twice a week, on average. What can I do about this?

  1. It is all connected:

Cats get hair balls from l*****g themselves

They l**k themselves because they think they are not clean or have fleas.

Its simple! give it baths more often so it can feel clean and not l**k itself.

    Hope it helps.

  2. Regular brushing, feeding a hairball control food, and giving hairball treatment should keep hairballs under control. Hairballs can cause blockages and become serious sometimes requiring surgery to remove. You might want to see your vet for a checkup and to get started on a prevention plan.

  3. The cat food, try changing that.  Mine are on a indoor formula as they are constantly indoors and for 7 years, I've had NO hairballs unless they had eaten people food or the dogs food.  I have 3 cats and have had 3 for 7 years.  Hairball free!  And with the few exceptions when they are given human food or slip in and eat the dog food (very very few times-maybe once a month).

Check with your vet to see what they'd recommend for your cat (if he/she has any health issues the food could be an issue).  I personally purchased 6 small 3lb bags of cat food and tried a little from each of them for a week each to see what would work for them.  When I found it, I've kept it.

  4. There are several things you can do. You can buy a cat food for Hairballs, brush or comb  your kitty more often, and the also make this treat that comes in a tube that look like a tooth paste tube and it comes in flavors, my cat Mia loves this in Salmon flavor.
