My one cat eats his wet or dry food, and then tries to cover it up! My other cat just watches him, and then walks over to eat. When she is done, the other cat goes back over and snacks again and tries to cover it uip again! Is he crazy??

  1. No, he's not crazy. Your other cat is competition for his food. If he was the only cat in the house he wouldn't do it.

  2. I agree with Irish, he took the words right out of my mouth I was going to say!  lol

  3. No, that's a throwback to their wild ancestry.  Wild cats, if they can't haul their catch up into the tree for safekeeping, will try to bury what's left to protect it from other critters so they can come back and eat some more later.  Not all cats do that though.  My current cats don't try to hide their food (and they love pushing the kibble out of the bowl onto the floor)--but they are secure enough so they know more food is forthcoming whenever they want it (spoiled cats).

  4. Not crazy.

Getting in touch with his inner wild cat.

Tigers, pumas and other cats will cover their left overs like that to hide them from other animals.

Cats usually grow out of this behavior.  But it's no big deal if they don't.  Just a funny "quirk" your cat has.

  5. No he's not crazy, he's just trying to cover up his food so no one will find it and eat it.  My cat does this even though we don't have any other animals in the house, but the place we adopted him from said that he used to be feral so I guess that's why.
