This cat was a rescue cat and is about 4 years old. She is very thin except for a pouch of fat on her belly.

  1. have you treated her for worms.if  like us all the food we eat goes to places we don't want it to and that's on our hips or our stomachs..

  2. shes pregnant.

  3. If the "pouch of fat" is toward the hind legs end of the abdomen, it could be a "spay pouch" of sagging skin, which is normal. If it is farther forward, I would be concerned that it could be fluid caused by FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). Does the cat have a good appetite? If she is not eating and drinking much, take her to the vet.

Good luck and please post an update.

  4. It's sorta the same thing like a human woman, you got your cat fixed so she put on weight! Just like when women get a hysterectiomy and their tubes tied, they tend to put on some extra weight!

  5. Well why do I have belly fat even tho I am pretty skinny?

    It happens.

  6. Are you sure it is "Fat"?

My cat is 'average' weight but he just happens to have a pouch of skin and long tummy hair that, when he lays on his side, looks like belly fat but isn't...

Your cat may just have long tummy hair or some extra skin.

Have your vet weigh her and as long as she is "Normal" weight for her size, that is all that matters.

  7. Due to cutting through the muscle when they are spayed many spayed cats have a sagging belly

  8. My male cat has the same thing, and has had it since I took him from a neighbor who was moving away, the poor thing had a lot of problems, but he is pretty lean at 12 pounds.  It looks like he had a fat belly in the past.  Maybe he needs a tummy tuck.

  9. it could be many different things.  she could have lost a lot of weight, or maybe she had kittens in the past, sometimes, when a female cat is fixed, this happens as well.  if it becomes worse, take her to the vet, but I'd recommend just changing her diet.

  10. All cats have a layer of fat.  It also may be excess skin from weight loss.  Do you know the history of the cat prior to rescue?  You're a great person for rescuing the cat from a shelter!

  11. If you are sure it is just a little pouch-

All cats have a pouch of SKIN under the tuck of their waist to accommodate their movements when they make a big jump or pounce.

When your cat stretches out your probably cannot see it because it is stretched out along with her legs.

If you suspect that it really is fat, or when you are petting her and it feels hard, bloated, or mushy in that spot (it should just feel like skin), it could be a sign of an underlying problem.

But in this case, it does not seem to be.  She sounds like she is normal to me!  If you still have concerns, dont hesitate to ask your vet! :-)
