Why does my cat have eye discharge

she has a redish brown goo coming from her left eye? she shows no sign of it bothering her so i just wipe it with a cotton swab. Should i be worried

  1. It could be an eye infection or (from the colour your describing) it could be blood mixed with sleep so get her to the vet to make sure everythings ok :)


  2. My mother's cat has the same problem.  You can take her to the vet to get it checked out if you like.  That's always the safest step.  You want to make sure its not something serious.

    My mom's cat has has this problem since he was a baby.  I believe its caused by a blocked tear canal.  It doesnt' hurt the cat, but it looks a bit gross, doesn't it?  Wipe it gently with a tissue and watch the cat's eye for signs of pus or milky discharge that signals a dangerous infection.  

    Ask your vet about it by all means, just to be safe.  If it is a blocked canal, it won't hurt the cat.
