Question:

Why does my cat only use the litterbox when I'm not there?

I have a seven year old Applehead Siamese. She is the sweetest little girl and loves me so much. I love her, too! But she has this one little problem. She only uses the litterbox when I'm not there. I know she uses it because I woke up a few days ago in the middle of the night and she was just coming out- and I smelled p**p. Could she be embarrassed? She's not acting sick at all and is completely normal otherwise.

I just don't get it!

Please help!!!

Thank you!!!

  1. just think , would you like someone watchin you do your business ?

    :D cats are awesome

  2. just like humans, they too are shy and embarrassed and want their privacy so stop peeking in and stuff,. let your cat do its thing.

  3. Some cats are like that, its a privacy thing. Cats do like their privacy. I have 3 cats and they dont seem to care. We hear them in the litter and thats good enough for me to know they are using it...other than finding stuff on the carpet when they are not. If you keep on watching them or messing with them when they are using the litter, they may find a more private area and go on the floor.

  4. Cats, naturally by nature, are a very private species. So, this aspect of them will show more when they want to use the litter box. All my cats are like this and none of them will use any of the litter boxes I have dotted about the house for them if either I or any of the other cats are in the same room when they want to do their business. They will, either, wait until that room is empty or go to one of the other rooms that have a litter box and use it if it's quiet. Feral cats also, do their business in a quiet, hidden place, when the coast is clear, as they do not want to attract attention to themselves and their territory. So, your cat is acting perfectly normal and it's nothing to worry about :)

    All the best.

  5. Cats don't like to have their litter box out in the open where everyone can see her take her deed..Hooded or not. Is she to big for the hooded litter box?

Keep all her stuff in the same location of the litter box and she should learn that this is her area.

    Good luck

  6. Cats like their privacy.

  7. BECAUSE SHE KNOW SYOUR THERE SHE WILL AUTOMATICALLY THINK YOUR THERE TO LET HER OUT TO GO HER BUISSNESS BUT IF SHE KNOWS YOUR NOT THERE THEN SHE OBVIOUSLY GONNA KNOW THAT SHE CANT GO OUTSIDE TO DO HER STUFF AND SHE IS OBVIOUSLY WELLL TRAINED AND KNOWS NOT TO GO ON THE FLOOR SO SHE USING HER TRAY BECAUSE SHE RESPECTS UR HOUSE !

  8. Some cats just like their privacy. I have two cats one (my baby/ only 8mos.) doesn't care who is in the room when he goes. But the other one (he's a yr.), refuses to go if there is someone else in the bathroom.

It really just depends on the personality of the cat and if she's not acting sick I wouldn't worry too much about it.
