Why does my cat sound like a dying baby?

His meow is all messed up. He doesn't meow, per say. It sounds like a broken up meow that's raspy.

Yea, it sounds like a dying baby.

What gives?

If the cat is siamese or part siamese they do sound like babies. I have 3 siamese and they sound like babies. Personally I like it and think it's cute but I could see where some would find it annoying.

Is your cat a SIAMESE...or mixed siamese? They sound like that...

OR your cat is in heat.... take it to the VET and have it spayed/ neutered!

this will most likely fix the meoOOORRRRW problem... because it is calling for a mate!

All cats have different voices just like people. My male cat sounds like a monkey.

If his meow has changed lately, he could be in heat, or he could be sick.

Some cats meows actually sound like human speech. My brothers blue russian actually used to meow "MAMA!" to me all the time.  Simply, some have wierd vocal sounds.  If your really worried about the "rasping" that youve described, I think you should take the kitten to a vet and get checked out.  If nothings wrong with the vocal cords or lungs, then your kitten is one of a certain few that just are a little unique.
