Question:

Why does my cat tinkle on my bed?

Tonight I spanked my cat because she urinated on my bed for the second time. I just moved into my new apartment 2 weeks ago. I didn't shut her in my room either. She just did that arbitrarily. When she peed on my comforter it soaked through all my blankets and even got on my sheets. I was not too happy about that at all. Now I'm afraid she left her scent there. What do I need to do in order to keep her from doing this a third time?

  1. Sounds like it's her bed now!

  2. Is she fixed? She could be marking her territory if she isn't... and possibly even if she is. Your scent is all over that bed, and YOU are hers. Try to avoid spanking her - use a spray bottle, and squirt water on her and ONLY if you catch her in the act. If you don't she will be confused as to why you are punishing her.

Use baking soda to eliminate the oder. Give her time, though, she may also be adjusting to the move.

  3. I agree that she is marking you as her own.

You need to be the alpha kat.

  4. Is she spayed?

    If not, PLEASE spay her.

  5. clean her litter box more, start closing your bedroom door, or go out of your way to SHOW her where the litter is. Like, everytime you see her, pick her up and dropp her in the litter box.

  6. Spanking her will accomplish nothing in this case, you need to figure out why she is doing it. If her litter box is dirty(cats can be very picky just depends on the cat) you can expect this and once a spot is designated ,that is where she will return every time. She could be having issues dealing with the new placeor possibly there were other cats in there before you that she smells which can cause marking of territory. They have a product out my vet recommended to me called URINE B GONE and should be available in pet stores or if not check on line or with your vet also I used red wine vinegar but you need to find out why she is doing it as there is assuredly a reason.

  7. shes doing it because shes unhappy..or stressed...probably coz you have just moved

dont use bleach to clean it..she will just keep remarking the same spot. Wash the area well with a bleach and amonia free disinfectant :)

(bleach has amonia in it..and if you use amonia type products to clean up after a cat, they will think another cat has been there, so will repeatedly re mark the same spot)

make sure her litter box is clean too..cats are fussy like that lol..and if need be, keep your bedroom door shut for a little while

  8. Turn her into a kitty burger and invite all your friends.

she will never pee on your bed again and all your friends will want the recipe.

  9. I just took my cat to the vet for this about two weeks ago. He has a uniary tract infection.  My vet also told me that sometimes a cat will have a behavior issue which will cause them to pee outside of the litter box. There are medications for this as well.

I washed my bed linens in laundry soap and Simple Solution.  It got the smell right out. You can get simple solution at petsmart or petco. My vet said that cats do not like lemon smell so to clean areas with something lemon scented. As well as cats do not like aluminum foil so put aluminum foil in areas (where possible) so when they jump on it they will get right back down. There is also something that you can buy that attracts them to the litter box its called cat attract.

I lined my bed with trash bags under my sheets to save my mattress but with his medications it has stopped now.

  10. oh this is a great one

she is marking you. just from now on close your door so she can't get in there. i had two cats male and a female do that, and i couldn't figure it out till the female did it too. but yes thats what it is, and she can't be trusted in your "area". i don't believe its all cats but certainly select ones.

  11. You are right abut the scent. She probably doesn't like where her toilet is, try to put it on some other peacefully place. Cats like people, like to do it in peace and quiet. Try to shut the door of your room for a while. If that doesn't help, check the sand, maybe something is wrong about it. Wrong label or you are using some perfume for cat sand? If you starting to do so - don't use it any more. Cats doesn't like smells that we like.  Some times cats doesn't like to use their sand box because sand is too clean or too dirty. Think about it. The last news isn't so good - when cats are having urinal problems they avoid sand box too, and they do it on weird places, but I think that she is just not adjusted too your new home. Give her some time and try to move her sand box into isolated but easy to come place and you'll be fine.

  12. spray the areas with vinegar so the scent wont be there and she wont go back.

have like a litter box in reach room where she can see it.

  13. Cats are very picky about their litter box.  Make sure you clean it often so she doesn't feel the need to go anywhere else.  Have you changed kitty litter brands recently?  Some cats only like certain types of litter(for instance- clumping, non-clumping, un-scented, scented, etc...), and do not appreciate it when their owners switch their favorite litter (and they will let you know when they are not pleased!!!).  As for your blankets, I would consider getting new ones because she may be able to smell a hint of her urine on them (even after you wash them), prompting her to use the bathroom on your bed again.  If she keeps it up, you may want to take her to the vet for a checkup.  Some cats relieve themselves in other places to get your attention.  She may have a bladder infection or something along those lines and is trying to let you know.  Anyway, good luck!
