  1. usually that means that he will let you pet him (almost like accepting you as someone to trust- like bowing to you).  It's a sign of respect trust me.  He obviously really loves you :)

  2. We've had our cockatiel for about 9 years now. He only does this either when he's in a good mood, he's showing off, or he wants attention. Whenever he does it, we say, "Big eagle, Sunny!" He loves the attention. He is probably just doing it because he wants attention. Besides, if he is trying to defend himself, why would he run up to you?

  3. lol your tiel is most likely just playing with you,  if he hisses tho he is a little scared and is trying to show u how big he can be  check out http://www.parrotcentral.net/cockatiels.... for good tiel info

  4. I would agree with Nancy. She seems to have a good knowledge of bird behavior.

  5. the person that said defense was right. they stretch out their wings, stick out their head and sometimes hiss. usually they do this when they are frightened or nervous.

  6. It sounds like some sort of defense.  Have you had him very long?  If not, that may be the reason.  He doesn't know you very well yet and it helps him to look bigger than he is, if he thinks you might be a possible predator.

  7. It sounds to me like he is excited to see you.  It is a bit of a begging motion when they bend their heads and flap their wings.

It is usually excitement to see you or him wanting you to pick him up or if you are eating he probably wants some!
