Why does my computer do this?

For some odd reason the icons on my desktop display the icons for a different program. For example, my recycle bin's icon will be the internet explorer's icon. This is a recent development. Any ideas?

  1. You may have a trojan that is moving things around. Do you notice odd things in other places on your computer?  There is away to get rid of them but not sure how.  You might google trojan removers to see what you come with. Good luck.

  2. someone that has acess to your computer might have changed them

  3. I would first run an updated anti-virus and anti-spyware. Sometimes a simple restart of your computer can fix things too. If that doesn't work I would use system restore which takes your computer back in time when it used to work. A recently installed program might have triggered this as well.If you think a program that can be related to a recently installed program I would uninstall, restart and see if that fixes it. To use system restore click start menu, then control panel, then Back up and restore center, then click on choose restore point and choose the most recent date that your computer worked normally. Don't worry about losing information that u saved, it wont be deleted.

  4. Someone used your computer and made a practical joke.

  5. VIRUS!! No Doubt! Get your computer cleaned.

  6. Check desk top properties, go to customize desktop and ensure that no one has changed it.

    If not.. install  anti virus

  7. You've been infected by something, run scans with all your protection.

  8. Clear your icon cache by using Tweak UI.
