I just put new RAM in, my computer runs fine, but when i go to play ANY full screen games the game either crashes or my computer freezes. It is DDR333 1GB on an HP Pavilion zv6000 with an ATI RS480m chipset.

  1. You might need to update the video drivers on the computer.....also the memory may not be compatible with the existing memory - or you could have a bad stick out of the box...I'd try the driver though first..

  2. I think Topdn is on to something there.

If your ram is faster than your mobo,no probs should occur, your new ram will just not be used to its optimum and just work as fast as the mobo.

However, if the new ram is a different speed to the old stick then your poor mobo could get confused.

Check device manager (win+break) to check the full amount of ram is present.

As it only seems to occur when you use directx full screen games it could be a graphic card problem?

make sure you haven't half-knocked out your gfx card by accident when you put the memory in (just lean on it quite hard) and reinstall gfx drivers, just in case.

I doubt this is the case though, it's prob due to different ram speeds.

Remove the old stick. Does the comp work fine?

Remove the new stick, replace with old. Does it work ok?

Is it just the mixture of the 2 that causes probs?

By doing this you should be able to tell whether or not the new ram is faulty (it does happen now and again).

    Good luck.

  3. is the ram matched in speed to what you already had ?

does your computer require ram to be in = pairs ?
