Question:

Why does my computer lock up when...?

If I'm on a website with a link sometimes my computer locks up. It can be when I've been online for hours or sometimes only minutes. It I ctrl/alt/del it might right itself but sometimes I have to do a restart or cold reboot.

It just sits.... this is too annoying. I have a Toshiba Satellite A-series Multimedia laptop...only 1 1/2 yrs old running XP.

Thanks!

  1. It's very hard to diagnose without seeing your machine.  I'm guessing that something is running in the background that you can't see and that this is causing errors.  You'll probably have to take it to a computer professional to look at.

  2. Are you using Google tool bar etc? Sometimes, programs to speed up your internet experience also cause this as they try to cache the links beforehand, so when you click on them, the page appears to load instantly. try working in the browsers safe mode (i.e w/o the add-ons & plug-ins).. It would be helpful if we knew what OS, AV & Anti-Spyware are you using, how often do you update & scan the computer? What browsers do you use, if it has BHO's or plug ins... I know I'm asking for lot of information. But without knowing what can go wrong, I can't eliminate anything.

I'm sure its a small problem that you'd be able to fix.
