I bought a new computer last week. I was able to save pictures in google groups as jpegs previously. I have installed microsoft office and can save pictures as jpegs elsewhere on the net and when I click on download for an image I can save as a jpeg, but when I open the image then try to save it I can only save as a bitmap. I have done what microsoft say to do and I have no damages programmes.

Thanks for your help.

  1. It's an Internet Explorer issue that rears its ugly head every now and then.

    1. Make sure you have write access to the location where IE stores its temporary internet files.

    2. Increase the amount of space reserved for those files.

Tools | Internet Options => Temporary Internet Files \ Settings

"Current location" shows where the files are stored. Find that location in your browser, and try to create a new file inside it (just right-click, select New file | Text file.) If that works, the issue is a simple cache issue. If it doesn't, change the access rights to the folder.

Back to the cache: change the amount of space by typing it in the little white box on the right of the slider. 150MB - 200MB is usually enough.

Check "Automatically" in the "Check for newer versions..." option list.

    Click OK.

Back in the Options window, click Delete Files (and wait for it to finish).

CLOSE ALL OPEN IE WINDOWS. This is important, as the cache for IE does not get cleared as long as one or more IE windows remain open. It's stupid, but that's IE for ya.

Log back in, and restart IE - you should be able to save all types of images again.

  2. Even if you save it as Bitmap, you can open it in Picture and Fax manager and save it as JPG, then delete the BMP version.

  3. hihih same as others.

its natural.. you have an option to "save as"

    if it does not work.

try to open it in MS Paint

    then "File"

    then Save As

    then Choose Extension (JPEG.jpg.)

then another file will appear as JPEG

then just delete the other Bitmap File to save some Diskspace ^_^ *choosy*
