Question:

Why does my computer say it had established a connection to the internet but when I open the browser, nothing?

I have a wireless network that requires me to use a receiver and it works fine along with the router. Yet, although the signal is strong and functional, my browser cannot open up my homepage. And after calling Tech Support in Cox Communications, we still couldn't fix the problem. Any suggestions?

We've tried:

Moving the router around to pick up a signal

Repairing the connection and restarting the browser

Reconnecting with the signal

  1. Make sure your browser (in its internet settings) isn't set to use a proxy server.

If you're using IE try Firefox or Opera and see how it goes.

  2. "Established a connection" means that the computer's radio can talk to the router's radio.  You still need any password the router needs and if MAC address filtering is turned on in the router, the hardware address of the computer.  For starters.

Call tech support if that doesn't help and ask that the problem be elevated to level 2.
