Why does my computer seem to not respond sometimes when on the internet?

Sometimes when online my computer seems to not respond. i click on a link or an address and nothing happens. i look at the modem and all of the lights are solid, not blinking like when it is working. this happens in both firefox and internet explorer. i was just trying to go to another website and the computer was unresponsive, but i got here to Y! answers just fine. but sometimes when i'm on here, it wont respond when i click submit, continue, or preview. all other programs run smoothly including a torrent downloading program. it isn't the problem though, because i can stop it, and the internet still won't work. it will go to some sites, but not others. those sites are not blocked or anything. it just seems like either the modem or computer is the problem.

what could be the problem?

also, a couple months ago the modem was making a click sound every once in a while (45 mins). it doesn't anymore.

Sounds like your modem is dieing. You may have to call your isp for a new one.

have you considered the possibility that you are part of a botnet?

make sure you have filters on all your phone jack that are in use.

your computers loading or you could be to far away if it's wire-less and if you open up the network setting and main screen you'll see how fast you conection is, because if it's slow you won't be able to assces anything on the internet window.

maybe you have too many things downloaded

try deleting some things in your task bar and on your screen but not

out of your start section then maybe it will go faster
