my laptop when it loads always gets stuck as it starts up. after pressing f1 to get into the setup i go into cmos setup to correct and after ive corrected the date and time i save the changes, carry on with loading of widows and carry on doing stuff as normal. if i turn it off and use it again later that day, it's fine but as soon it gets to the following day, it goes wrong again and i have to reset the date again. this happens every time. what is going on and how do i solve he problem?

  1. Every computer has a small battery inside... the CMOS battery.  This keeps the time/date setting among other things.

Your laptop needs a new one.

If you don't feel like taking your laptop apart, take it to your nearest computer repair shop for a replacement CMOS battery.

  2. Perhaps your computer is still afraid of Y2K :-)

No, it's the battery, as mentioned above.

  3. I'd leave it on overnight and see if the date changes properly. If it does, then, as others mentioned, the CMOS battery may have been depleted. This is usually a button-cell, like a calculator battery located on the mother board. Most are replacable, though some are soldered in place.

If the computer fails to recognize the new day, even when powered up, then it's likely that the internal clock is defective.
