Question:

Why does my computer turn off when installing certain things and extracting things?

Basically what the question says. My computer would completely turn off and I would have to unplug the cord in the back and replug it to make it work again. It turns off when I tried installing Cabal Online and when I try extracting and unzipping things - but certain things though. I believe that it only turns off when I'm extracting something that's fairly big.

I have a walk-around solution which is extracting one file at a time instead of the whole thing at once and that seems to work. But this solution won't work for the Cabal installation file because I don't really know how it works and plus it's a .exe. So if anyone has a fix then please share. Thanks.

  1. It sounds like bad ram.  Your computer puts everything to memory first  and it's probably hitting the limit to where it's bad, which causes a short and shuts off your computer. Your processor could be over heating or bad.  Does the processor fan go into a roar when this happens?  If it is, that means the processor is heating up.  Although that may happen normally, if the processor is bad, it could cause a short.

  2. You probably have a hardware problem with the power supply or with overheating.   Hard to narrow it down without more information.

Generally, if the machine freezes or bluescreens it's software or OS, but if it shuts completely off it's hardware.
