Why does my computers screen keep turning on in the middle of the night?

Most nights in the middle of the night when I leave my computer on I'll get woken up by my computer screen turning on. Does anyone know how I can stop this?

maybe it's the automatic updates.

this usually restarts your computer by updating new info to your computer.

you can turn it off, just go to the program, & change it.

check the laser on your mouse for cat hair or anything that might be vibrating with the slightest flow of air.  Another common cause is a setting in your bios called wake on lan.  If enabled then any network traffic could wake your machine including a ping from the isp which is a common occurance.  You can manually set the wakeup to be the keyboard instead of the mouse if the problem is fuzz on your laser.

What is causing your screen to turn on in the middle of the night? if it is windows update, then set windows update not to automatically install updates. If it is set to automatically shut down a computer after X minutes or hours, then it will shut down at that time.

In general though, unless you have something important that cannot be re-opened after a shutdown, you should regularly shut down your PC. It will extend your PC's life and will cool down your computer when not in use.

It's in standby. Something is being picked up as activity by your computer, which turns the screen back on. Maybe your optical mouse falsely detected movement.

Easy fix. Instead of letting it go into standby, switch off the monitor when you're done using it.
