Question:

Why does my county only accept plastic bottles for recycling?

They will take plastic bottles #1-7, but any other plastics of any number are turned away. This includes cups, buckets, or any other plastic even if it is a number 1-7. Is there some sort of advantage to taking only bottles for them?

  1. #1's are best to recycle.  Recycle one soda bottle could save enough energy to power your TV for 11/2 hours.  Some other types of plastic are recyclable and some counties get $ for certain types.

I thought #5,6 or 7 were not recyclable.  But I will check on that again.

But remember, for every ton of plastic that is recycled more than 1000 gallons of gas is saved!

  2. Recycling programs are expensive to start.  The initial purchase of equipment to melt down steel, glass, what have you, is enormous.  They may have plans for the future.  Write to them and ask.

  3. hey that is good, mine only does #1 & 2, but also, paper, cardboard, metal cans and glass bottles

  4. The equipment, labor, and management cost a great deal. Most cities get state or federal money to fund these programs and are limited by their budget.

  5. idk ask ur city
