Why does my dep air force contract say i am signing in the resevers when im not?

my contract says i am joining the air force reserves for 8 year, 4 years obligated to active duty, 4 to the reserves.

it states that i will be in active duty for 4 years, but the thing im worried about is that it says im joining the air force reserves, is it suppose to be like that?

  1. Right now you are considered in the inactive reserves. When you leave for basic, that will be your active duty date. As soon as you finish your 4 years active duty, if you decide to not stay in, you will be placed back in the inactive reserves for an additional 4 years. Your recruiter should have explained this. I would ask him to explain this again to you.


  2. DEP is selected reserves... that is the 1st Oath you Swore, joining the DEP... on your ship date, you return to MEPS, are Discharged from the DEP Reserve Contract, raise your hand again, and are then Sworn into the Actual AD contract.

    It's all as it should be, that staement is just a loophole closer, to insure that if something unforseen happens, like an injury, that you are still obligated, of a sorts.

  3. Yes, that's a standard contract for military service.  4 years active, 4 years inactive reserves.  When you signed the contract, you actually signed for 8 years total, not 4.
