Why does my digital TV remote now wear out batteries every few weeks?

Is the problem with the batteries or the remote? Batteries used to last up to a year. I am not using the TV now for longer periods than in the past. It's an integral digital TV.

  1. Make sure your not using no-name, cheap batteries, they normally have random battery life. I recommend Duracell. If you suspect something has been spilt onto the remote, it may have caused corrosion causing high resistance which may drain batteries quicker... if a battery has leaked in the remote, the same applies. (Check the battery terminals... the spring things, they should be clean and shiny)

  2. That's probably more of a function of the design of the remote itself, not the fact the TV is analog or digital.  Apparently they didn't take the time to make the remote "efficient".

Probably the best thing to do is run down to Best Buy and get yourself two sets of Lithium Ion batteries and a charger.  Keep one set on charge and one in the remote.  That's what I do with my computer mouse!
