The dishwasher spits up food into the kitchen sink, I know this is normal (is it) but why does it happen?

  1. The hose is attached to the sink.. if you don't run the garbage disposal it will spit out food, sometimes if there is too much water running out it will do that too.

  2. NO, it's not normal.

If you are getting water in the sink, then your dishwasher drain pump is pumping faster than your drain can move out the water.

If your drain from the dishwasher is above the disposal,,,it should not be,,,, then this could slow the flow.

More than likely, you have either build up in the drain, poor drain vent, or no enough fall on your drain line.

If you have new/good pipes,,,,try a foaming cleaner, for slow drains.

If this is not enough, consider having a drain rooter service.

  3. Keep the G/D clear of food at all times or the acids in the food will rot out the G/D early, this unit is not a trash can.
