Question:

Why does my dog's fur keep changing colours?

When I adopted my dog (shih tzu cross) last year, he more or less had white fur. As his fur grew longer he started to sport black fur on his ears. After a few months, his fur started to turn apricot and now he's growing strands of black human like hair on his body. Any idea why? Is it due to the weather, stress or even the type of shampoo i use?

By the way my dog is already 3 years old now. So i doubt its due to changes in fur appearance from puppy to adulthood.

Please help me solve this mystery. haha.

Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Some dogs change colors, or at least shades, all through their lives.

  2. your dog is changing colours because...uhh what she said

  3. Dogs hair can change colors all through thier lives, like the person above said. My golden retriever is now 6 years old and her hair is getting lighter around her face because she is getting older. Since your dog is a cross, I would imagine that he is growing hair from whatever other breed he is. I don't think it is a big deal. But just in case, make sure you are using good shampoo that is made for dogs. If you feel like it could be due to what you are feeding your dog, or anything else, then I would talk to your vet.
