Why does my dog eating my cat food?

my 10 week old pomeranian mixed pekingese is eating my cat food, its the soft food that he is eating, should we buy him soft food?

Dogs and cats will eat each others food.  In this case, it may be wise to put your cat's food in an area only the cat can get too.  Otherwise, if you want to feed your dog soft food, and can afford it - and your vet says it's healthy to do that - then go for it.  Just do it slowly - changing either a dog or cats food too fast can cause digestion problems.

He's probably eating it because it's sitting out. Dogs have a tendency to do that..

We ended up having to put the cat food on the counter to keep our dog away from the cat's food.

He's eating it because he can. Dogs will go after any food in reach. Go ahead and buy him canned dog food but he will still eat the cats food if given the chance.

Animals will eat anything that tastes good to them. However, it doesn't necessarily mean it is good for them. Because of the different nutritional needs, a dog can't eat cat food and a cat can't eat dog food. So please only let eating dog food an option for your dog.

i've heard that soft food is bad for young dogs. my dog eats my cat's food but it's not soft food. i don't know if you should. consult your vet first.

It's a dog. He WILL eat cat food. However, this is NOT good for dogs. Nor is dog food for cats. Put the cat food up somewhere that the cat can get to and out of the way of the dog. Show the cat where the food is and don't leave both bowls on the floor where the dog can get to both.

You are lucky,cause my puppy eats not only cat's food but even the filling of the cat's box...with faeces.Though my cats eat the dog's food as well.

My cousin's dog eats the cat food and my cousin's cats eat the dog food. How would you feel if you could only eat one type of food forever lol?

Cat food has more fat and flavor compared to dog food. My dogs love to clean up the can food after my cats get done. Just be careful that he doesn't eat a lot of it or he might become overweight. You can buy him canned dog food and give him small amounts each day, but it is bad for their teeth so make sure you feed him dry also.

It's a dog, they eat anything. If you don't want it to eat your cats food, feed them separately and don't leave left overs laying around.

It's very difficult to train instincts out of any animal.
