Why does my dog get super hyper when other dogs are around?

My lab will walk on a leash normally go potty and follow commands and is very laid back. BUT if we walk her with our other dog who is also very laid back and walks next to us our lab spends the entire walk trying to jump all over her like she's trying to play and then our lab will start to pull and bark and try to run after our other dog while she's trying to potty. My arm is nearly ripped off. She won't come, sit or go potty & we end up spending the whole walk untangling the leashes. Besides doubling my walks every day how can I prevent this?

  1. train them. first do strict walking training on their own. i know you siad they where well behaved on their own so make sure they dont pull, sit when you say to, heal when you tell them, stay on one side of you when walking, no stoping ect. when they have that mastered on their own you start them together, just in the back yard. use treats to keep them under control as labs are food dogs. and go through the whole same thing in your back yard. make sure they stay on one side, sit, heal ect.  it will take time and pacience. after they have done that take them out for short walks and constantly tell them how good they are when they behave and give treats. make sure you get them in line as soon as you can when one actes up even the tiniest bi. i know this may sound harsh but after you train them strictly you will have 2 dogs that love goig for walks and an owner that likes talking them. everyone wins.

  2. Okay, everytime he does this to your other dog give him a firm pull and tell him NO! or CHHH! it will take a few trys but i guarantee it'll work.

  3. Keep one lab on one side of you body, BACK by your legs, and the other on the other side.  You should be in the middle at all times with them lined up with your heels.  If they're pullers, and you can't do this, look in to either no-pull harness, or the gentle-lead.

  4. The problem here is that you say the dog follows commands but apparently only when it wants to.  This is not a reliably trained dog and one that I'm sure does not defer to you as the alpha.  You need to have reliable dogs with commands and treat you as alpha.  Then the problems could be easily corrected.  A good trainer could take those two dogs and within 10 to 20 minutes have them behaving and a joy to walk.  Enroll in obedience classes, these are for you more than the dog.  They will teach you about dog behavior and how to teach your dog.
