Why does my dog hide under the table?

only recently has she started doing this. could it be ..the resto f the carpet is just covered in her shed hair?

  1. I assume your dog is female, since you refer to "her."

    I consider the hiding-under-the-table to be a form of nesting behaviour. Canids try to find a cave-like shelter for nesting in when they are preparing to have babies.

    Your dog has probably entered heat and views the table as a kind of nest or cave, or at least a conveniently located  facsimile of such a shelter.

    Some dogs will get quite defensive of "their" nests.

  3. It's a security thing, dog feel more secure in enclosed places. How old is she? What is his general temperament? I found typically shy dogs or dogs who are starting to feel the effects of age like to start being cave dogs.
