I have a jack russell called sasha and sometimes she will make this weird grunt noise sounds a bit like when someone clears there throat. Some times she will come in the room and grunt or sometimes i will be stroking her and she will grunt. I think its either that she wants attention or shes happy. what do you think?

  1. some breeds are known for their "grunting" but its not usual in GRTs, but it can happen, my dogs tend to "grunt" when they are getting cuddled, sometimes its just a way of showing affection

  2. Could be both.  I would't worry.  Kind of cute.

  3. Charlie, your dog is doing what is called a reverse sneeze. Sasha does this to clear her throat and sinuses, just as you do when you sneeze, only instead of blowing it out her nose, she is sending it down her throat. The effort of doing this causes the grunting noise you keep hearing. It's nothing to get alarmed about- my dog does this all the time, and the vet says she's fine.

It could also be that Sasha is giving you an affectionate growl- which is something else that my dog does a lot of. Unless she appears to be in pain or uncomfortable in some way, or is obviously having trouble breathing, then she's likely to be just fine.

  4. Is he humping your leg at the time?

  5. i dont think there is anything much wrong with your dog , is she coughing or is she barking also she may have a throat infection or a realy bad cough my dog timmy had a realy bad cough and a throat infection , and he used to grunt all the time , you mat consider taking her to the vets or talking to people who know allot about dogs that you know

    hope for the best!
