Why does my dog sleep with his legs straight up it the air?

Sometimes, my shih tzu sleeps on his back, legs straight up in the air, why is this?

its Comfortable. Just like we sleep on our sides, stomach, backs, etc.

My Australian Shepherds do that too.  Mostly when they lay under a ceiling fan.  I always thought it was to cool off their bellies.  My Cairn terrier and Irish Setter never sleep like that.

my papillon has more positions than i can tell about.  but she will be flat on her back and her front legs curled up to chest and back legs splayed.  i figure she has to be comfortable.
