If I'm sitting down and look around to find my dog and he sees me looking for him he comes running and tries to hop up in my lap everytime. Don't even have to say anything, he just has to see me looking!

  1. my lil baby does the same...they just luuuuuuv us! yay!

  2. The same reason my cat thinks that making eye contact is an invitation to be stroked and leave her hairs all over me.

    I guess they're just sociable :]

  3. Cause he loves you

  4. Yes, he reads your eyes, your body language, and your scent - all of which seem to invite him for some affection!

  5. your dog doesn't speak human. maybe with a little training that wouldn't be an issue. my dog does the same, but i love when she does it. ;)

  6. My little girl does the same thing, she loves to be with you is all.

  7. You've taught him that looking at him is an invitation from you.  Now you have to unteach it.  He needs to learn to come up only when invited by a command.   Take him down, make him sit, praise him when he does it right, then give him the command "up."  Praise him when he does it right.  Put him back down every time he comes up without being invited.

It will take longer to "unteach" now that it's happened, but he will learn.  This is actually an important lesson so he knows that he does not have control of the sofa, you do.

  8. My german shepherd is the same way. I suppose, to him, simply looking at him means he is supposed to come over and make me pet him. It's a dog thing.
