Why does my dogs bark?

Question

whenever someone comes in our house even knock on the door but when I come home and start to go in they never bark at me.Its like they know it is me even before they see me.Can they sense it is me or do they know the sound of my car.Well I do not think it is the car because I can just be outside then come in and they do not bark at me before I get in but will bark at others until they see who it is.

It sounds like there is a very strong bond between the two of  you.  Dogs are smart, and it helps to have better hearing and smelling abilities.  They probably recognize the scent or sound of foot falls. How do they react when you are upset or stressed, they are probably very attuned to that also.

They can most likely smell you and recognize a familiar scent.

My dog goes whacko-barking with strangers but starts making whining sounds whenever I get close to my driveway from the sidewalk.

Your dogs are doing a natural thing protecting your house. Dogs can smell things far away that we even can't smell so yours dogs probably got use to your scent knowing when you come home. My dog (Buddy) does the same thing if he sees someone unfamiliar or smells he would bark I just try to calm him down distracting him with a toy.Also any time he hears the door opens he checks who it is protecting the house and my family

Yes, your dogs can hear you coming, and they know the pattern of your movements (your habits, if you will - the order in which you do things on the way in the house) When someone else approaches, they can hear a difference and smell a difference.  They most likely hear the car if you drive up, and the door shutting.  If two doors shut, they know something different is happening ... you could be bringing groceries or a friend!  Your dogs are doing a perfect job - they are efficient in monitoring the safety of your home.  Enjoy!

They Know the sounds you make  everyday coming and going , cars doors and engines and squeaks and such on your car make it distinct they know your scent once your near enough to  smell it, and They also know believe it or not your routine (time schedule)   some dogs :"attack" and fend off  the mailman daily,  Other dogs  ignore  the same mail person  once they realize YOu don't get all worked up and  often the dog  realizes  That Its a routine thing too.. The dog wants to protect the house  and protect you,,  earn its keep...

It's probably because they know your scent but aren't as familiar as other people's scents so they can't recognize the other peoples.
