Question:

Why does my drive off the tee hook to the left?

I am using a 13 degree driver. I used to have hook to the right, which I fixed. Then last year I was hitting everything straight down the middle and 200+ yards.

Now I am hitting my drives maybe 150 or 200 on a good day.

However off the drive when my ball is about 100 yards out it always seems to hook to the left. This may just be the overall hook.

Is this my swing?

My grip?

Am I angling my swing?

Is my club head open too much ( I have opened it because I was hitting line drives)

Or has my driver (2 years old) run out of life?

  1. Before changing anything of your style, check the things in the best way you can first.

    - Video your swing on the driving range.

    - Get your clubs looked at. Has the club head changed angle a little that would give you a vastly different result?

and one thing that helped me.

My kids drew on my golf balls with a permanent marker. The next time I was slicing with my driver, I noticed marks on the club head where I was hitting the ball. I reajusted where I placed my feet to center the hit on the clubhead and straightened my drives.

  2. First of all , check the grip. You may have the palms of both hands turned too far to the right ( I presume your left hand is the lead hand). The Vs formed by the thumb and forefinger should be pointing over the middle of the rear shoulder. They may be pointing to the outside of the rear shoulder leading you to have a closed club face at the impact point, which causes the sharp hook.( ball starting right but going left). Also check your stance which may be closed( rear foot not on target line with front foot ). Finally your swing may be too flat similiar to a baseball swing which could also cause the hook. With all of that said, and you enjoy the game when it is going well, Take a couple of lessons from a local teaching pro. He should straighten you out quickly.

  3. It's hard to tell without seeing.  I'd spend the coin to have

a half hour lesson with a local golf  pro.  He can straighten you

    out.

  4. A hook is the result of the clubface being closed at impact with the ball.  Many things could cause that from too strong a grip, poorly fitted shaft, can't tell without seeing you swing.

  5. Sounds like the ball is drawing as opposed to hooking.  What you may want to do is aim a little to the right off the tee and see if this doesn't help a bit.

  6. try widing ur stance, play the ball just inside your left heel if ur right handed, it could b ur grip but i dont know ur grip so i dont know. Hmmm also may be because ur hands are coming before your body.

But the best adive i can offer you is to SLOW down your swing. In the short you will lose distance, but once u get it sorted your timing will b better and as a result better drives in the long run.
