Why does my dvd player have sound but no picture?

Elements portable dvd player has sound but no picture. It only shows a white screen.

Some DVD players have contrast or brightness controls that will make the screen go white or black if they are turned to the extremes.  If that's not the problem, it's probably not worth fixing.
