Question:

Why does my ear throb at night?

At night when I go to sleep my left ear throbs, I know it's my pulse that I can hear and it sounds like Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh.

It's like the sound you get when you come home from a loud nightclub or gig and you sit somewhere quite and you can still hear the bass!!! But now it's constant!

Are my ears damaged, is it my blood pressure?

My brother thinks it's because I am tall (I get black-outs when I stand up) and when I lie down all the blood goes back to my head quickly, is he taking the p*ss?

  2. Patulous Eustachian tube, also known as patent Eustachian tube, is the name of a rare physical disorder where the Eustachian tube, which is normally closed, instead stays intermittently open. As a result, when it is open, all of the patient's breathing, talking, swallowing, heart beat, etc. vibrates directly on the ear drum creating an effect that sounds like the patient has a bucket on his/her head. The medical term for this phenomenon is autophony, the hearing of self-generated sounds.
