Why does my evaporative cooler blow water mist?

When on low, the cooler works normally. When on high, the cooler sucks water through the blower which you can feel water droplets and the floor in front of the cooler gets wet. I live in so.cal and I am in a dry climate. None of my friends have the same problem. Thanks!

  1. Check to make sure the drain hole/hose is not clogged! Sounds like the condensation is gathering on the bottom of the unit and the fan is sucking it up at high speeds and blowing it out the vents. GOOD LUCK!!!

  2. Find the name plate and call the mfgr.  If you have an adjustable damper, adjusting the air input or output may solve the problem.  It sounds as if the fan is sucking to much air.  Another possiblity is the fins are damaged and the water is not flowing properly and the fan is  able to suck up some of the splatter mist and pull it thru on high.  If you can disassemble some of the cover plates you might be able to see what is happening, but becareful you may be exposing yourself to rotating fan and exposed electrical connections. One last thought is there a filter you have neglected changing, or put in a filter that was not an exact replacement of the same type and material?
