  1. Well it depends. The eye stabilizes in most people at age 21. Your perscription will eventually stabilize to be close to that of one of your parents.

Although, if your number has risen very fast and you are above age 21, you should get yourself checked for keratoconus, as early detection is crucial, because there are treatments that stop the disease's progress. Otherwise, there's nothing to worry about.

  2. If you would tell us a little more about your case we could be more helpful.

What is your uncorrected visual acuity?

    How old are you?

What was your previous prescription, and when?

    What is your present prescription?

    Are you near-sighted or far-sighted?

What is your visual acuity with your old glasses?

What is your visual acuity with your new glasses?

Did your prescription go from minus to more minus, of from plus to more plus?

  3. Probably reading too much or reading in the dark.

  4. your eyes will stabilize as you get older AND when you're looking at the chart and reading off the letters it fluctuates throughout the day.  it's true -- you could get tested in the same day in the morning and at night and you'd prefer two different things.

as long as you can see through your glasses, it's all good.
