  1. There are two basic types of resin: laminating and finishing.  The laminating resin has a sticky finish when dried and finishing resin has a hard finish due to the wax that is mixed into the resin.  If you used laminating resin and the finish is sticky, just apply a coat of finishing resin on it; let it dry; then sand it; and apply a coat of finishing resin over the sanded area.

Laminating resin is used to laminate the fiberglass to the surfboard.  A sanding coat (similar to finishing resin) is applied over the laminated glass to fill the glass texture and enable the board to be sanded smooth because it is difficult  to sand the sticky surface of laminating resin.  A gloss coat of finishing resin is then applied to give the board its glossy finish which is then fine sanded and then compounded and waxed.
