Why does my ford probe sound horrible when i rev it?

Question

i ran out of petrol a few days ago and i couldn't start it up, so i put some petrol from a jerry can into it and i started it, it had a struggle, it then started it, then it was spluttering (if u get what i mean). when i put my foot on the accelerator it revs but splutters. i know its dragged **** from the tank and i know alot of people are going to say use red ex but i don't think it will work. I'm thinking there may be a problem with the fuel filter or fuel pump or the injectors r blocked. i don't want to take it to a garage because they will do the usual.....oooo this don't look good rip off comment u get me. if ur a car geek please help me!!!!!

Do the following:-

1) Fill the fuel tank up with clean new fuel.

2) Change the fuel filter.

Let the car start up and idle for around ten minutes before trying to drive it. Its possible that you have air in either the fuel injectors or the fuel line, by letting it idle hopefully the air will be purged out.

you'll need to get your fuel lines flushed out and change or clean your fuel filter.

Stale fuel in a can would not be a problem, i run engines with fuel thats sat for a year in a tank - they run ok

air block on your fuel line, normally the float stops any air going into the fuel line when you run out of petrol but for some reason it didnt on your car. It might correct itself over time otherwise you will need to take it to a garage to get the fuel system bleeded to remove the air from the lines.

Fuel from cans goes off quickly - the octane eveporates so i could be you just need fresh fuel in it. Try that first (give it time for the fresh fuel to reach the carbs)

replace filters & plugs to be safe & fill the tank right up

i don't think it will be fuel pump they work or they don't work simple really

injecters could well be but you have to do basics first!

Im no car geek but i know that you can bust your fuel pump by running it dry like that!

Any c**p brought through wont sound like that for long as it will just get burnt up, if anything it may scuff up your cylinders but nothing a car can handle!
