Question:

Why does my hamster keep l*****g everything?

He's 1 1/2 years old

He gets fed from the hamster food mix every second day and has plenty of water but he's recently constantly l*****g things. His cage, my fingers, the floor, anything he gets at.

I'm worried he's lacking something but his food mix says it has all the nutrition he needs in it.

Any ideas please?

  1. um, maybe he's just tasting things? i really don't know because i don't have a hamster. some animals just like to get to know the world around them by tasting instead of smelling and just looking.

  2. your hamster is l*****g everything to say incase another animal comes to your house that its his and his only

  3. My cat does this as well. l*****g puzzy is quite common

  4. that is a sign of wet tail. my 1 year old hamster did the same thing. all though sometimes its fatal. i hope this helps.

  5. i had a dwarf hamster that used to do that.

  6. He can probably just taste things and he's l*****g them to see if they're tasty, my hamsters have always done this.

My last hamster started doing it more when her eyesight got really bad!

  7. i used to have one and he used to do thesame. hes probably just being a hamster. have him checked at a vet  but im sure he's fine. good luck!

  8. Maybe your hamster is lacking salt.  Check with the petstore.

  9. my guinea pig does that all the time.

  10. hey.. try getting him something to chew on.. u can get bars that hang from the top of his cage..or little blocks u can put on the floor of his cage.. sounds to me like he wants to chew...

he's probably l*****g ur fingers cuz they smell of food, and the floor for the same reason.. maybe he doesnt like his food, does he eat the food u give him? like do u notice some has gone when u replace it.. go to ur local pet store and they should have a lot of different things for them to chew on.. dog biscuits are good aswell.. hamsters love them!!

  11. that's normal. he's probably craving salt. that would explain l*****g your skin. and animals get their salt from l*****g things.

  12. its just putting its scent on things thats all

  13. it is a sign he's thirsty but since you give him lots of water, that is prob not the case. he also may need salt or sodium. so try to get some salt sticks from the petstore.

  14. It's tasty.

Literally. Hamsters and other rodents primarily use taste and smell to discover their world. Incidentally, so do babies.

  15. Buy him a salt l**k, they are good for them.
