Why does my hamster nibble on my fingers?

He doesn't bite my fingers but he just nibbles on them why?

He may be hungry be sure to feed him everyday. do you wash your hands be for you handle him? he may smell food. of he may just be playing with you  good luck. :)

sounds like ur hammie is just curious. he may think ur food, but after he nips at u a coupla times he'll figure out ur not. my hammies do that all the time dont worry about it! but be sure to wash your hands before you handle ur hamster, and maybe he wont nip as much.

Many hamsters nibble on their pet owner's hands. There are three reasons for this - firstly they do this as a sign of affection (it is the reverse of biting which they would do when they do not like the smell), secondly they do it to see if you would give them some treats (this happens when you are used to giving them treats, so they associate your hand smell with treats) and thirdly because of our body salt which they think is food (even if we don't sweat, we can give out minute amounts of salty moisture through our skin and hamsters have a keen sense of smell and smell that too)

Whichever the reason, it is completely normal for your hamster to nibble your fingers. Just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before handling your hamster since any smell of food in your hand can make him bite your hand unwittingly thinking it is food.

He's just curious like most animals are....My brother's pet rat does that very often and my cockatiels have to kinda get a taste of their surroundings.
