  1. hmmm use gloves or put alcohol on your hands so it will taste gross every time she bites

  2. Well if you haven't had the bird for long give it a chance to get to know you. Never use gloves, or alcohol , the gloves will just make it more scared of you and the alcohol could poison it. Just be patient with the bird, it will come around.  And the best place to handle the bird is out of the cage , in the cage it will be more aggressive, that is their territory and will protect it. Out side the cage it is in your territory.

  3. hello,

my cockatiel bit me at first too. i would say talk to it every time you think about it [[hopefuly ALOT]] and try to handle it as much as possible. i took my cockatiel out every day [[even though she bit me]] for a month and eventually she started comming out on her own and trusting me more.

    good luck! :D

  4. hi

let it get to know you. when your changing its food talk nicely to him/her and keep your hand in there for a couple of minutes. or until it stops flapping round when it sees your hand. make sure that it is looking at your hand and then pull it out of the cage. do this for about a week and then when it stops flying everywhere at the sight of your hand then just slowly but carefully move your hand closer and closer to it. if it flies away do this again... if it flies away 4 times in a row tell it that it is a good bird for trying and try again tomorow. keep doing this until your hand can be right next to its feet and it wont fly away.

hope this helps and good luck

  5. if you show affection it will stop.

  6. I have a Sun Conure who did the same thing.  When I first got him he would be on my shoulder and just bite me out of the blue.  It has been two years since he has bitten me.  What I did was just talk to him and give him a treat everyday before taking him out.  I just did this everyday and the biting just got to be less and less each time I had him out.  Another thing is try to be calm and not do a lot of fast movement.  It makes birds nervous.  Also, they don't like sudden noises, such as dishes clanking, clapping, that sort of thing.  So try to spend time with her when things are quiet or take her in a room alone.  One more thing, many birds bond with just one person.  My guy loves everyone now.  On the other hand my mother's bird (Nanday Conure)doesn't like anyone but her no matter how much I try to work with her.

    Hope this helps

  7. probably because you move to fast, try moving slower and more deliberate

  8. put some seed in your hand and leave it in the cage to gain the trust of your bird, it will take a while but if your patient you should have your bird sitting on your hand without losing skin. it's just a way to gain the birds trust.

  9. hi,

your cocketiel is more scared of you than you are of it!

it might be biting you because you move your hand to fast which can frighten it. if you got the bird from another breeder that has hand raised it, it might be arfraid of you beacause its knows its origanal owner better! the trick is to spend lots of time with your bird and even if it is hand tamed they can still get very scared and may not be the best tamed bird you have seen! lol

    hope this helps! goodluck!
