Question:

Why does my hip give out during volleyball?

I play a lot in the sand, and I have an approach where I plant for my jump slightly sideways- I've been told this gives better snap on the swing. The right hip, which is slightly behind on takeoff is starting to give out on me. I think it may be due to straining a tendon or joint on the jump. It's not terribly painful, but I'm worried something will tear if I keep playing. Any exercises or stretches that would help this?? Essentially, I think I'm using the hip muscle to slow my forward momentum and bring it upward.

  1. if you think it's the approach then you need to change it... you can either choose to have better snap on the swing or you can choose to extend your career

i think going to a sports doctor is the only real way to find out what's wrong and look for solutions

  2. Please go to a doctor and have it checked out, the last thing you need is to tear a muscle in your hip and be out of action for months. Your movement sounds ok but your body is telling you to get it checked out. It's better to be safe then sorry.
