Why does my home theatre use more volts when its off?

we have a surge protector that displays the volts and when we are using everything it displays anywhere form 117-119 and when its off it displays anywhere from 120-122 why is that?

When you turn off your electronics they actully aren't off. It's more like a standby. Why they use more power I have never heard of that but maybe its saying how much voltage you can spare? Have you tried unpluging somthing and see what the number becomes?

When your TV is on, it is using more electricity than it does in standby mode, so there is a greater line voltage drop.  That's why the SP shows a lower voltage when the TV is on.  In standby mode, it uses only a small amount of electricity, so there's very little drop in line voltage.  (Standby mode means it will respond to the remote control, even though the TV's power switch is in the "off" position.)

Any device that has a remote, uses power when not in use.

I doubt that it uses more, but you can buy a meter to check this.

Not sure why it's higher....BUT I can tell you that the electric current is still running through the devices even though it's turned "off". The best bet is to plug them all into a power strip and then switch it off from the power strip to save electricity if you need to save more. :) But That is a good question....maybe an elecritian will have an answer for you.
