He calls his grown daughters several times a day and tells them our every move, our every thought, and if we make plans they are made aware of every detail. This drives me crazy! I want some privacy! He is always talking about money with them and acting like he is a millionare, and he is retired draws social security and has a small pention, he is 9 years older than me so I am still working. I am a registered nurse and make 3 times what he gets plus benefits. When he talks to them about anything we buy he talks like he buys it all by himself and then they act like it was bought for them. When they come to the house they just walk in like they own the place. What should I do?

  1. This sounds like you have two options.

Sit him down, talk to him seriously, and express your concerns AND your wish for having a private life. There is no need to share everything.

I`m even thinking that this is unhealthy - and could be the indication of something being mentally not 100%.

The second option is to take charge, tell him to stop this childish " look what i have " behavior and tell the daughters to call before visiting. However, this will be like becoming a mother to your husband, and will most likely mean that this will continue indefinitely.

Things will HAVE to change - because sooner or later your mental health will suffer.

  2. I don't think you can do anything about the money talk. But you can tell his daughters they need to knock that it is your house. He may feel bad that since he is no longer working, he can't support you as he wishes he could....

  3. PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN!!  THAT IS IT!!  IT IS OVER FOR HIM TO HAVE TO LOOK GOOD FOR HIS DAUGHTERS!!  NO MORE DAUGHTERS WALKING IN UNANNOUNCED!!!

I think he is very spoiled, insecure and needy.
