Why does my internet Die when streaming videos on a wireless router?

Whether its from MSN.com, digg, or even southparkstudios.com halfway through videos they stop streaming and my internet pauses, and my whole router locks up forcing me to unplug and reset. I can download fine and my internet ONLY locks up when streaming, please help

  1. The router is probably overheating.  If it's a cheapie router, that's why it's cheap.  If it's a Linksys WRT54G with an early firmware, they fixed that in the later firmware (which you can download and update the router with).  If it's another good router (d-Link, Netgear, recent Belkin) it could still be a heat problem.  (That's the most common cause of router shut-down during heavy load, which streaming video is.)  Make sure the router is out in the open on all sides, the holes in the case aren't blocked, and it's not near anything generating heat (not even the modem - putting the router on top of the modem is bad).


  2. Lack of bandwidth is possible or high latency between the video server and your computer.
