Question:

Why does my internet connection drop when I get on the phone?

I have the phone and internet through the cable company and I never had any problems with being on the internet and the phone. I bought a new lynksis router a couple of weeks ago and a new cordless phone. It seems to have started around that time. The cable tech said there might be too much on that frequency? The weird thing is that sometimes it does work? Any ideas before I go buy new phones?

  1. The phone could be too close to your modem and router which would cause interference thus affecting your internet connection. Try moving your telephone base a few feet away from your modem and router and see if that resolves the issue !

    Good Luck !

  2. Cordless phones and wireless internet sometimes use the same frequencies.  If you are using a wireless telephone near a Linksys wireless router, it may be that it is being overloaded, so to speak, by the cordless phone signal.  As the base unit of a cordless phone is a transceiver (a transmitter and receiver) there is a strong signal being sent from it to a cordless phone.  This signal may be interfering with the Linksys router even if it is not a wireless router.  It is always better to keep electronic devices apart so they do not interfere with each other.
