Why does my internet speed slow down and stop than speeds up again?

Question

when i download files, music, video, anything, it will download at high speeds, like 500 kb/s, than it will slow down to a few kb/s and completely stop and i will loose internet connection for a while than it will restart and do the same thing over and over. what can i do to prevent that from happening? i have cable, when i run speed tests, the download bandwith is about 12000 kb/s and uploading is 1200 kb/s. any suggestions?

your service provider might be upgrading the service

Well for my opinion, your Internet service provider might be upgrading the service or the copper lining that you using are aged or in other word old. In your case, I also face this similar kind of thing. The only thing that I encounter was my Internet line are disconnecting frequently as i download a very big file at full speed. I suggest you to make a complaint to your ISP which manage your internet

Well, are you suing torrents? Torrents all depend o n how many people are seeding so if the seeds keep dissapearing then popping back up again then that would b the case.
