Why does my ipod freeze everytime i plug it in to computor?

Everytime i plug my ipod into my laptop or computor and it has battery it freezes

it never used to do this an it works fine if i plug it in when its dead

RESET the ipod before pluggin in. (menu and centre button till screen goes black) the with itunes running plug it in when screen lights up.  then from the ipod tab select either update or restore.

also make sure you are running latest version of itunes 7.7.1
