Why does my keyboard stop working after the PC has hibernated for a while?

It doesn't happen all the time either.

If it helps, updates aren't automatically downloaded, but I usually let them install.

I haven't changed settings that have to do with the keyboard.

The only peripherals are the printer, backup drive, and digital camera.

I have a computer game that is downloaded (Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific), and the music is all ripped from CD's that I own, and no videos.

The machine is an HP Pavilion a1230n running Windows XP that I bought new in 11/05. The keyboard came with it.

Plus, I don't know if this has anything to do with my Envision brand monitor and the problem I have there with the page display being offset by 1/4" to the right every time I need to restart the PC.

Any insight would be helpful.

Thank you.

I'm stumped but I think it could be something simple.

  1. because your unplugging the mains

  2. maybe the keyboard if it is an expensive one it could be hibernating itself because now a days somekeyboards can hibernate themself and you need to press some key to get them back on

  3. are you sure this is hibernation and not standby? standby will lose many usb devices even unplugging them will not allow them to be seen until the computer is rebooted, use hibernation instead
