  1. This is a comfort mechanism, the do it to make the spot comfortable, you know kind of like fluffing up a pillow. they eventually lay down but they can do it for a really long time. It means they are happy and clam. they are probably purring when they do this too.

  2. my cat does that too but i say she almost gives a massage, she does that as a sign to show shes happy and she feels safe in other words she just trying to say she love ya' and so far she is having a good time. when there little and getting milk from there mom they do that gesture to keep the milk flowing so it relaxes them when they do that, she probably purs when shes doing this too.

  3. Affection.  Kittens are all over momma when they are babies.  Your momma now.

  4. it's a show of love and trust.  my cat does it to me too.  i read that they do that when they're little to get the milk flowing in their mother's t***s or nipples and so it has a calming effect on them as well.

  5. The "marching" you are talking about is usually referred to as "kneading." Cats do this when they are babies to keep the milk flowing from their mothers. Eventually, the kneading movement is associated with a "happy" feeling. (Food=Happy and Food=Kneading therefore Kneading=Happy) So basically, her "marching" is her way of saying, "Dude, I love you." =D
