Question:

Why does my kitten scratch everything?

He has frayed two carpets because he kicks with his hind legs and pushes off it. I trim him nails about once every two weeks and I have tried those glue on soft paws and he chewed them off. He doesn't like scratch pads or cat nip. I don't want to declaw him. Any alternative?

  1. Your kitten is leaving a scent behind and enforcing his ownership on things.. all you need is a cat scratching post (with maybe a couple of cat toys attached) and with a little help he will eventually divert his scratching to the post.. no need to trim nails at all and de-clawing him would be cruel...!!  If he needs a little bit of gentle persuasion to stop scratching in certain places, use a water pistol.. he'll soon the message when you don't spray him when he uses the cat scratcher.. and it's a lot less drastic than de-clawing...

  2. hes playful :)

    join him

  3. If you wold consider declawing a cat you don't deserve to have one.

  4. they do it to sharpen their claws

  5. i dont know

  6. because he/she is starting to wonder what her claws are there for, kitten find this fun because they are experiencing something new to do but mainly to sharper claws, and their instinct, from the wild to claw things.

  7. if you want try putting aluminum foil on the things he scratches on because cats hate that. anyway he's probably sharpening he's nails my kitten does that all the time that's why i have two scratching poles!!

  8. because kittens are little and are trying to sharpen their nails.if they dont then thay could have there nails grow wrong or even fallout. but be careful what he sharpens his nails on. moms seem to get mad sometimes.. lol.
