Why does my kitten sit on my neck?

When I put her in my lap, she tries to climb up onto my neck when I'm watching TV. When she's up there, she purrs VERY loud and falls asleep.

  1. lol i thought our cat was the only one that did that... i swear our cat thinks she is a bird. and at night she must keep one paw on my husband at all times he rolls over she rolls over it is sooo cute. i think it is just a way of showing you they love you kinda like a hug i know my cat give me kisses and my husbands cat is the one that thinks she is a bird

  2. What better way to claim ownership of you, while simultaneously getting a high and comfortable perch? Cats like to be up high by instinct. They can have a better view of their surroundings, and be more secure from predators if they are up in a tree, for example. My sister's cat loved to jump from the toilet to the frame of the shower door. He would stay on the 1/2-inch-wide metal bar for minutes at a time, just so he could watch what was going on.

  3. Because she loves you!  :)

My new kitten does the exact same thing.  She gets up on my neck, curls up, purrrrrrrs, and falls asleep until I have to get up -- which usually makes me watch TV for way longer than I had intended, lol.

Your new baby loves you and wants to be as close to you as possible.  She is probably imprinting on you and mimicking the cuddling and closeness she would otherwise have with her kitten bros and sisters, and mama.

Sounds like you will have a really good, loveable cat once she grows up.

Continue to let her get close to you and pet her a lot and give her lots of hugs and kisses.

She will grow out of it eventually...and you'll be tellin' people about how she used to do that as a baby.

  4. OHH HOW SWEET! MY CAT DOES THAT SAME THING! IT SHOWS LOVE AND AFFECTION TO YOU! IT SEEMS THAT YOU TREAT THE CAT VERY NICE! ITS VERY GOOD THAT YOUR CAT DOES THAT! ITS HOW CATS SHOW LOVE,AFFECTION AND TRUST!

  5. I have had other cats do the same thing.  I think they like being high.  notice the purring and sleeping that means they are happy.  the same cat also tried to eat my earrings in my ear.

  6. I'm not sure why that is, but it is the same way with my cats. They just love being that close to your face, maybe, who knows?
